Espresso Machine Modifications

I just found this bit of advice from 2005 by Jim Shulman on espresso machine modifications on CoffeeGeek. I definitely concur. You need to be able to be very consistent with your technique, producing 25-30 second shots with decent crema, and be able to do 5 single shots (or 5 doubles) in a row, at the very least, consistently. Otherwise, you won't know the difference with and without your modification.

  1. Hello,
I read your blog and the post are very interesting.
But I have a question: you know a good forum/blog/website where I can find some reviews about the expresso machines (that use both grind cofee and specials capsules or monodosis)? I have 200...250$ and I search for the best espresso machine :)))
    Thank you!

  2. CoffeeGeek and Home-Barista are both excellent resources, I just get sick of some of the machine slamming that goes on. Take my advice: get a good grinder first, espresso machine second. The grinder is more important than the espresso machine itself.

I think that, in this moment, is the best choice for his value/quality.
Thanks for the good advice to use a quality grinder. In this moment I have a low quality grinder ( http://www.clatronic.de/product_info.php/info/p422_KSW-2669-Coffee-grinder.html/XTCsid/l9frc88rteor24gc5qdf7h184ka48ihi )
